Narrative Assessment - 15 Oct 2015 - Literacy

Learning Observed
Today’s writing topic was “An underwater adventure”. Jack set to work readily and expressed his thoughts and ideas with ease.

Jack was able to write simple sentences with conjunctions. He is beginning to use adjectives in his writing.
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Managing Self - Jack settled to work quickly
Use Language, Symbols and Texts -  He is capable and writes fluently
Thinking - His ideas were in sequence
Next Learning Steps
  • Begin to edit his work to change repetitive words (remove “and”)
  • Use a variety of sentences
  • Continue including descriptive words in his writing

Narrative Assessment - 21 Oct 2015 - Mathematics

Learning Area: Mathematics
Learning Observed
Today Jack completed a Gloss Maths assessment. He was able to solve the Addition and Subtraction problem but not articulate how he solve it. Jack used skip counting to solve the Multiplication problem. He was unable to solve the Proportions and Ratios questions.

Jack used a skip counting strategy to solve a problem. I wonder if he is practising this with Mathletics?
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Jack is developing his Capabilities in Mathematics. He is using many different problems solving strategies to figure out the questions (Thinking). Jack is able to read and process the questions (Using Language, Symbols and Texts).
Next Learning Steps
  • Explicitly teach how to use an additive strategy to solve Proportions and Ratio questions
  • Explicitly teach how to use multiplicative strategies to solve Multiplication and Division questions
